Acoustic ‘Immorality’ song…

For a long time, I thought about recording an acoustic version of one of the songs from Immorality to release it as a kind of “teaser” for the EP.
Just like I did with The Flame from Morality

However, I’ve come to the conclusion that none of the songs from Immorality work very well acoustically.
It’s not that they sound bad acoustically, it’s just that performing them acoustically doesn’t really change the songs because they all feature a “stripped back” production style anyway.

So I’ve decided that I’m going to release a song called A Closed Door as the “teaser track” from Immorality.
This song was originally going to be included on Immorality, but I decided to remove it at the last minute in order to make room for a different song called It’s All Happening Over Here.

I’m really proud of the song, and it was really hard for me to choose not to use it in the final track-listing for the EP.
So I’m really pleased that I now have a good reason to release it!

The song is composed for just voice and piano, so it fits in perfectly with the acoustic theme.
This song should be available on SoundCloud within the next couple of weeks, and Immorality shall follow soon after!
It will feature as a hidden bonus track on Immorality and it will be sent to anybody that chooses to download the EP.

I’ll let you know when it’s online!

Summer Plans…

Hi everyone!

If you follow me on twitter or facebook, you may have seen that Friday was the final deadline for coursework and last day of teaching on my university course.

My second year doesn’t start until mid-September/October, so I’ve got plenty of time to work on new music and projects!
I already have plans regarding upcoming projects, and I’ll talk a bit about what’s to come in this blog.

For those who are interested, here is my experimental electro-acoustic composition that I’ve made for my university course.

The whole composition was made by manipulating sounds that I sampled from an alarm and a typewriter.

This probably won’t appeal to everyone, as it’s very different from the music I normally make, I’m just sharing it just in case anybody is curious about the kind of things I do at university.

I submitted this yesterday, and I should have a grade within the next few weeks.

The Flame

I’ve never really spoken about this before, but it might interest you to know that sometimes I write poems.
I wouldn’t ever call myself a poet though, but I am certainly a songwriter.
A lot of my songs begin as poems, and then I rework them to make them more “song-like”.
This was the case with The Flame.

I’ve never shared any of the original poem versions of my lyrics before, but I thought it would be nice to share this one as I know people have really responded well to this song.
I won’t tell you what I wrote it about, but I will tell you the story of when I wrote it.

I wrote this last year whilst I was at college. I had a free period and I was on my own, walking to the supermarket nearby to get something to eat.
I decided to take a short cut through a small park that was by a hospital. It was cold and it started to rain pretty hard.
Literally out of nowhere I felt a very strong urge to write, so I sat down on a bench and wrote what became ‘The Flame’ onto a small piece of note paper.
As soon as I got home, I started to experiment with what I had written, I added music to it and it eventually became a song.

If any of you would like me to share more of my poem versions of songs, or even pieces of writing that are just poems and never became songs then please let me know!

The Flame

To have a heart made of stone

To have a body of gold

The flames burn in your eyes

Is that what I want in life?

To have passion and lust

To have anger and hate

I may think it’s alright now

But both will bring sorrow

I think I despise you

But I may secretly love you

I’m really not sure

And I don’t think I will ever know

You have a heart made of stone

You have a body of gold

You have that fire in your eyes

That’s all I need in life

I heard all about the deals you made

I can see through the burning flames

I know the reason why you need me

But that’s ok, because I need the same

I can see through the burning flames

I know all about the deals you made

Scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours

You’re going to love me forever more

It seems we’re both made of stone

We may have bodies of gold

A flame burns in in our eyes

And we have no shame.

What I’m doing now…

Hi everyone!

It’s been a while since I posted a blog, In this blog I’ll be explaining what I’m going to be doing over the next few months.

I’ll start by talking about the current state of my Immorality EP.
Sadly, I have decided to put the EP to one side for a few months.
Just until May, which is when my final assignments for the year are due to be submitted. (That isn’t the only reason why I’ve pushed it back)

My reasons are…

  1. I need to focus on my university coursework
  2. I think it could be much better
  3. Era and Morality have only just started their journey

I originally intended for the EP to just contain four tracks, but I’ve recorded demos of each song and it just doesn’t feel complete.
I feel like there is something missing, especially since Morality contains seven tracks.

Anyway, I’ve been thinking about this for quite some time and I think I know what the EP needs.
I don’t want to say what is is yet, but I have an idea for a song which is nothing like anything I’ve done before. It’s going to be a challenge, but I’m going to experiment and see what happens.

In regards to my third reason, my records, Era and Morality, haven’t been out for very long. Era was released last year in October and Morality was released at the end of last month.
They’re still at the beginning of their journey and they’re just starting to reach the people who are interested in hearing them.
Immorality is the “other half” of Morality, and it seems a bit silly to release it so soon after the first half.
Surely, It’s understandable that I’d love for my music to reach as many people as possible, but it seems that the only way I can do that is if I give it a chance to find it’s way.

My original plan was to release Immorality in March or April, but now I’m planning for an early summer release.
