My Music blog 61…

Hi everybody!

If any of you follow me on twitter or have liked my facebook fan page, you may have seen that I’m going to enter a competition which is being held by Patrick Wolf, who is one of my favourite artists and a big influence on my music.
If you’re a fan of him then probably be aware of this already, but he’s holding a competition for people to remix his single “Time Of My Life”.
Patrick then listens to all of the remixes that have been submitted and then his top three favourite get featured on his website and he will perform the winner’s remix during his live shows!

I’ve never done a remix of anything before, but it’s always been something that I’ve wanted to try so I thought I’d give it a go. I haven’t quite finished my remix but so far I’m rather impressed with myself! My remix is a dance/synthpop version of the song which is quite different from the original.
When it’s done, I’ll submit it to the competition and hopefully it will go far!

I’ve spent the majority of this week working on that remix, though I have done some other things.
I started working on a a new track which has the working title of “Far too perfect”. I can’t say too much about it just yet, as it’s still in the very early stages, but it’s kind of a follow-up to “I can’t stop writing songs about you”.
If any of you have heard that song, you’ll know that one of the lines is “definitely far too perfect”.
I can imagine the song will be a free download track, along with “So-Called Angel”.
I’m going to try and release two free download songs at a time from now on.

That’s all I’ve done this week, I go back to college for my third year tomorrow.
I’m really looking forward to seeing all of my friends again, though I really wish I had some more time off!

Also, earlier today I reached 50 “likes” on my Facebook fan page!
I just want to say thank you so much to everybody who has supported me, words cannot describe how much I appreciate it!

Thank you so much for reading this blog, please be sure to check out the other “my music” blogs and to check out my music if you haven’t already done so!

Thanks,

Josh :)

    Hi everybody!

This blog is probably going to be pretty short as I haven’t really have the time to do anything with my music this week. I also haven’t really had any ideas for music this week unfortunately.
I have done one thing with my music and I’ve done a few things relating to my music, so I’ll talk about them.

I’ve started work on a remix for one of my own songs. Remixing songs for other people is something I’d definitely like to try in the future, so I thought I’d practice on one of my own songs first. The song I’m remixing is “Falls Apart” which at the moment is an unreleased song of mine. When I’ve built a larger fan-base, I’ll release the song and the remix. The remix is nowhere near finished yet, but it’s coming a long ok. At the moment, the mix is sounding a bit too busy for my liking, so I think I need to tone it down a bit. I haven’t finished putting the mix together yet, I’ve only done about two minutes worth and I plan for it to be at least four minutes long.
The original song has a typical synthpop style, this remix is sounding quite electronic and clubby. There’s going to be a very big difference between the two versions of the song.
I’ll let you know how the remix comes along.

Today my sister took some photographs of me which I’ve used as artwork for the free download songs and as images on my websites.
You may have already seen them, but if not then please CLICK HERE to look at them.

I really like the images, they represent me as a musician and I like to think that they portray me with a unique style and image. I believe that music & art should always be hand-in-hand with each other. I don’t want to be one of those musicians that just turns up to the show in a tatty old t-shirt and a pair of jeans. I think my imagery should express the messages of my music, hopefully my images do that and I hope to create more interesting imagery for my music in the future.
I want to create an abstract, unusual image for my music which also has a “campy”/slightly flamboyant and glamorous essence to it.
Electropop/Synthpop has always been about the art, glamour and abstract imagery, and that’s exactly how I want to portray myself as an artist.

My parents have bought me a copy of M-Powered Pro Tools 8 for my birthday!!!
I am so happy about that and I’m really grateful. However, since my birthday isn’t ‘till April 1st, I’m not allowed to have it until then.
I cannot wait to start using it though!!!!

I’ve recently started listening to some artists/bands who will definitely prove to be an influence on the music I create in the future. I’ve recently started listening to Peter Gabriel as my friend Gemma recommended him to me, and I absolutely love him! I love his style, imagery and music! I’ve also started listening to Visage. I currently love their music and they’re a perfect example of how electropop’s imagery should be!

That’s all I’ve got to say this week,
    Thanks for reading this blog!

    My Music Blog 35….

    Hi everybody!

This week I haven’t done very much with my music as I’ve had a lot of coursework to do, but I have done a few things so I’ll write about those.

I recorded a second cover for YouTube this week.
If you haven’t seen it yet, CLICK HERE!!!!
It’s a mash-up of Lady GaGa’s “Paparazzi”, Stevie Nicks’ “Edge Of Seventeen” and Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill”.
If you like the cover, please subscribe to my channel, click the like button and/or leave a comment!!!

I’ve started working on a new instrumental which I think will become a new free download song. I haven’t written any lyrics or a vocal melody for it yet though. I have an idea, I just need to put it down.

I also started recording vocals for a new free download song which is untitled at the moment. I’ve finished the instrumental and the lyrics, but I don’t know if I like the chorus or not. The song is quite unusual, and I think most people will misinterpret the meaning of the song. I’m happy with the verses, the pre-chorus and the middle 8 but I don’t know how to feel about the chorus. Sometimes I love it and sometimes I loathe it. I’ve recorded the vocals for the first verse and I think I’m happy with it, I’m going to record the rest of the bits that I’m happy with and then think about what to do with the chorus.
I have two ideas for the chorus, they’re both to the same melody but the lyrics between them are slightly different. I can’t decide which version is best.

I also started working on a new piano song, which I really like, but it’s still in the very early stages.

That’s all I have to say this week, thank you for reading this blog, please be sure to read the other my music blogs if you haven’t already done so!

    My Music (Blog 34)….

    Hi everybody!

This week I finally released some music!!!!
Hopefully you’ve listened to my music, but if not you can hear four of my songs here, or you can click here to listen to them and download them for free!
I’ve also uploaded a cover of “Bouncing Off Clouds” by Tori Amos to YouTube which can be found here.

Please check them out and leave feedback!!!

As of now, I’ve had a total of 185 plays and 13 downloads on SoundCloud. Personally, I think that’s pretty good considering I only released the music on Monday.
My facebook page currently has 30 likes, if you do like my music and have facebook, please like my page!!!

The feedback that I’ve received so far has all been positive, which is obviously a good thing! I’m quite glad that there’s a variation between people’s favourite song out of the four that I uploaded, people haven’t all liked just one of the songs and ignored the rest, which is good.

People’s feedback has also inspired me to just recording my vocals slightly differently to the way I did in the past. I used to record the songs, line by line, that was very time consuming. A lot of people said that they like my singing best on ”Goodnight & God Bless”. I think this is because I recorded that song in just a few takes rather than one line per take, which makes my recordings sound much more natural I think. I agreed that my recording sound best on that song so I’m going to try and record my vocals that way in the future.

This week I’ve started writing some new songs, 3 of which are likely to be new free download songs in the future. One of the songs is one that I wrote a while ago, it was I wrote for the E.P. but I couldn’t find a place for it so I left it out. The song at the moment is called “Simon Says” but I’m likely to change that. I think I’m happy with the songs except I need to record vocals and re-record the drum machine as I don’t think they sound very good at the moment.
A few days ago I wrote some lyrics to an instrumental that I mentioned a few weeks ago which I said I wasn’t sure what to do with it. I really like the song but I’m feeling 50/50 on the chorus. I’m not sure what it is, but sometimes I think the chorus is great, and other times I think it’s really stupid. I quite like the ambiguity of the lyrics though. It’s one of those songs that sound like their about one subject on the surface, but when you read further into the lyrics you actually find that the song is about something totally different!
The third song currently doesn’t have any lyrics, but it’s just a piano riff right now. I quite like it, but it’s still in the very early stages.

Today I also started working on a new dance riff for a song, I really like and I think it’s really catchy, but I’m not sure where else I want to go with it (if that makes sense). At the moment it’s just a riff, I need to work on it and add more to the song!

That’s all I have to say this week, please read the other “My Music” blogs and check out my songs if you haven’t already done so!

    Thanks,

    Josh :)
