Acoustic 'Immorality' song...

For a long time, I thought about recording an acoustic version of one of the songs from Immorality to release it as a kind of “teaser” for the EP.
Just like I did with The Flame from Morality.

However, I’ve come to the conclusion that none of the songs from Immorality work very well acoustically.
It’s not that they sound bad acoustically, it’s just that performing them acoustically doesn’t really change the songs because they all feature a “stripped back” production style anyway.

So I’ve decided that I’m going to release a song called A Closed Door as the “teaser track” from Immorality.
This song was originally going to be included on Immorality, but I decided to remove it at the last minute in order to make room for a different song called It’s All Happening Over Here.

I’m really proud of the song, and it was really hard for me to choose not to use it in the final track-listing for the EP.
So I’m really pleased that I now have a good reason to release it!

The song is composed for just voice and piano, so it fits in perfectly with the acoustic theme.
This song should be available on SoundCloud within the next couple of weeks, and Immorality shall follow soon after!
It will feature as a hidden bonus track on Immorality and it will be sent to anybody that chooses to download the EP.

I’ll let you know when it’s online!

Her independence, creativity and devotion to her art is very admirable.
She was revolutionary, not just in cinema, but in history and culture!
She is a truly inspiring person.

Hi everyone!

If you follow me on twitter or facebook, you may have seen that Friday was the final deadline for coursework and last day of teaching on my university course.

My second year doesn’t start until mid-September/October, so I’ve got plenty of time to work on new music and projects!
I already have plans regarding upcoming projects, and I’ll talk a bit about what’s to come in this blog.

Immorality EP

I’ve been talking about this for a while, my main focus for the summer is the Immorality EP, which is part two of my first EP, called Morality, that was released earlier this year.

I can’t remember how much I have said about this EP so far, but I can assure you that there will be some considerable differences between the two EPs, even though I’m pairing them together.

Lyrically, both of the EPs share the same themes and similar song subject matter. Morality featured several songs about situations in which a persons Morality or choices can be questioned. Immorality will share similar themes.

However, the musicality and over all sound of Immorality will be noticeably different. Morality mostly consists of electro-pop sound in a similar style to many of my other songs.
It’s quite difficult to describe the sound I have in mind for Immorality, I can only really describe it as still electronic, but more minimalistic than anything I’ve done before.
Some of the songs on there will be quite airy, with stripped back productions, but I also want songs that are uneasy and somewhat dissonant.

Up until a week or two ago, the songs for Immorality had been written and demoed, but I’ve changed my mind about it.
I’ve left two songs from my original track list one that has the working title of ‘The Apple Tree’ and a song called ‘Army Of Hypocrisy’, which I’m really excited about.
As of now, ‘Army Of Hypocrisy’ is the song I plan to release first.

I’m really going to use Immorality as a reason to experiment and develop the sound of the music I make.

Collaboration

I’m not saying too much about this yet, as we’re still developing things, but I’m going to be collaborating on a few tracks with a friend and musician that I have a tremendous amount of respect for.
We’ll be doing this just to have a bit of fun, but we hope you enjoy it too!

Second collection of songs

I’ve been thinking about what I should do after the Immorality EP has been released, and I’ve come up with an idea that I’m really excited about.
I don’t want to say what my idea is just yet, but I will say that is heavily inspired by songs that I often find myself writing, yet never develop.

I don’t want to call this an album, is it will probably be far too short.

Suite

Something that I’ve always wanted to do is write a suite.
For those who may not now what a suite is in musical terms, it’s generally several musical pieces of music (usually classical) that come together as one composition.

I know that seems very risky for someone who just writes electro-pop songs, but it’s something I now feel ready to try.
I haven’t started writing this yet, I don’t know what it shall be about or if it will be done before I go back to university.
I just know that the pieces will be for synthesizer, and possibly voice.

I’m really inspired by the suites that Kraftwerk have composed, such as the Tour De France Étape or the suite at the end of their Trans Europe Express album.

I’m still developing ideas for this, so I’ll let you know how I come along.

For those who are interested, here is my experimental electro-acoustic composition that I’ve made for my university course.

The whole composition was made by manipulating sounds that I sampled from an alarm and a typewriter.

This probably won’t appeal to everyone, as it’s very different from the music I normally make, I’m just sharing it just in case anybody is curious about the kind of things I do at university.

I submitted this yesterday, and I should have a grade within the next few weeks.
